Riley Hit by 97 MPH Fastball on Wednesday
Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley has been diagnosed with a fractured hand after being hit by a 97 mph fastball on Wednesday. The Braves placed Riley on the 10-day injured list on Thursday.
There is no timetable for Riley's return, but the injury is a significant blow to the Braves, who are currently in first place in the NL East.
Riley, who is 24 years old, is one of the Braves' most promising young players. He finished the 2022 season with a .303 batting average, 33 home runs, and 93 RBIs.
The Braves will likely recall Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Riley's place on the roster.
