Shanghai ATP 1000: Kevin Anderson Beats Karen Khachanov to Claim Title

Kevin Anderson fought back from a set down to beat Karen Khachanov 6-7, 6-3, 7-6, and claim the Shanghai Rolex Masters title, his seventh ATP Tour crown.

Anderson continues his impressive season, having already reached the Wimbledon final and won the New York Open. He is projected to reach a career-high ranking of No. 6 on Monday, becoming the first South African to reach the top 10 since 1985.

Anderson Wins Shanghai Thriller

Khachanov took the first set in a tiebreaker after failing to convert three set points on Anderson’s serve. In the second, Anderson broke Khachanov’s serve once in the seventh game and dominated the rest of the way.

The third set was another tight affair with both players showing strong defense skills. Anderson eventually gained the upper hand, winning the second tiebreaker 8-6.

Anderson’s serve was a major factor in his victory. He finished the match with 24 aces and won 84 percent of first-serve points.
